Overview
Between what happens to you and how you respond there is a step: your interpretation. You cannot always control events, but you can train what happens next. Fifteen skills under five pillars (Self-Knowledge, Composure Under Pressure, Accurate Thinking, Strength Deployment, and Team Connection) are taught in four modules, drawn from published research in cognitive-behavioral psychology, positive psychology, sport and military performance science, and organizational behavior. Each skill is practical the same day you learn it.
Pillars
- Self-Knowledge
- Composure Under Pressure
- Accurate Thinking
- Strength Deployment
- Team Connection
What you will be able to do
- Apply the TARGET goal-setting method and the Daily Wins Debrief to a real personal or professional objective.
- Analyze personal reactions to adverse events using the SIR Loop, and correct distorted thinking using the six static patterns, anchor-belief probes, and the six-step Problem Drill.
- Employ the four composure skills — Reality Ranging, Tactical Reset, Rapid Reframe, and Attention Shift — to regulate thought spirals and the physical stress response in real time.
- Integrate character-strength deployment and constructive communication (CLEAR, Precision Praise, Amplify the Win) to strengthen individual and team performance.
Terminal learning objectives
One per module, stated as action, condition, and standard. The standard is what a learner must demonstrate; it is observable and checkable.
M1
Foundations: Direction and Fuel
- Action
- Apply the TARGET goal-setting method and the Daily Wins Debrief to a real personal or professional objective.
- Condition
- Given the common conditions stated in How to Use These Lesson Plans.
- Standard
- Participant completes a TARGET worksheet containing all six elements (dated objective with personal why; evidenced baseline; gap named as buildable nouns; dated milestones none more than three weeks apart; execution action sized to a worst realistic week; written review schedule), confirmed by partner audit; and records a three-win Daily Wins Debrief with one debrief question answered in full sentences.
M2
Mental Toughness I: Thinking Accurately
- Action
- Analyze personal reactions to adverse events using the SIR Loop, and correct distorted thinking using the six static patterns, anchor-belief probes, and the six-step Problem Drill.
- Condition
- Given the common conditions stated in How to Use These Lesson Plans.
- Standard
- Participant maps one real event into a camera-test-passing Situation, first-draft Interpretation, and emotion-plus-action Response; names the static pattern in 5 of 6 drill scenarios with the correct clearing question; completes a written anchor-belief worksheet through a keep/loosen/act decision; and completes all six Problem Drill steps on a real problem with both evidence columns filled and at least one initially-missed factor identified.
M3
Mental Toughness II: Composure Under Pressure
- Action
- Employ the four composure skills — Reality Ranging, Tactical Reset, Rapid Reframe, and Attention Shift — to regulate thought spirals and the physical stress response in real time.
- Condition
- Given the common conditions stated in How to Use These Lesson Plans.
- Standard
- Participant produces a written five-step Reality Range on a live worry, with a survivable-floor worst case, a base-rate-backed probable case, and a plan containing a 24-hour step; performs the four-step Tactical Reset sequence from memory twice; delivers a Rapid Reframe counter inside five seconds using one of the three openers without committing any named failure mode; and builds an Attention Shift pocket card with three qualifying shifters and a return-appointment format.
M4
Character Strengths and Strong Relationships
- Action
- Integrate character-strength deployment and constructive communication (CLEAR, Precision Praise, Amplify the Win) to strengthen individual and team performance.
- Condition
- Given the common conditions stated in How to Use These Lesson Plans.
- Standard
- Participant identifies four to six signature strengths each passing all three markers, validated by a partner; writes a deployment sentence containing strength, behavior, and deadline, with an overdrive tripwire; scripts a CLEAR conversation containing all five steps with a single specific request, and rehearses it to the delivery standard under mild pushback; writes one Precision Praise naming behavior and outcome with a rule-based channel choice; and demonstrates an Amplify response with two reliving questions and a named strength.
