About this course
Operating Environment Intelligence for government and defense program offices: read an operating region before you commit, and brief a decision leaders can act on.
Every consequential decision is made inside an environment the organization does not control. This program teaches a repeatable discipline for reading that environment, judging what it means, and giving a decision-maker something to act on. Nineteen skills in five modules follow five pillars: Frame, Scan, Connect, Judge, and Deliver. You bring a live decision from your own organization, and by the end you hold a completed estimate on it, not notes about a method. It is not a forecasting course and it does not teach research collection.
Joint Readiness Rehabilitation Command, a 900-person defense health command serving reserve-component members, military families, and federal civilians at four sites, has ninety days to recommend whether to establish, partner, or decline at a fifth.
What you will be able to do
- Frame an assigned analytic task as a bounded decision, scope it, and produce a rated assumption ledger.
- Conduct a complete eight-domain BEARINGS Scan, grade all sources, card all findings, and produce a ranked Blank Map.
- Build a cited Link Grid from a card set, run three-order consequence chains, score available leverage points, and classify changes as drift or jolt.
- Test evidence against competing explanations, run a structured bias sweep, assign calibrated confidence, and convert findings into so-what lines.
- Produce a one-page estimate, build a watchboard, deliver a ninety-second verbal read, and set a refresh rhythm.
Who it is for
Federal, state, and defense-adjacent program offices assessing an operating region, a partner institution, or a program stand-up. You bring a live decision from your own organization and work it through the whole program.
This edition's scenarios, examples, and vocabulary are set in a government and defense organization. The objectives and standards are the same in every edition.
